New studies may have shown us , not only the cause of migraines, but the possible cure. It could be as simple as taking the proper vitamins.
Researchers found that a high percentage of migraine sufferers are deficient in four vital nutrients. They are vitamins D and B2 (riboflavin), folate, and coenzyme Q10.
Scientists measured blood levels of the vitamins in over 4,500 young migraine sufferers. They found that deficiencies of all four nutrients were common:
- 41% were low in riboflavin.
- 63% were low in folate.
- 71% were low in CoQ10.
- 89% were low in vitamin D.
The study did not go a step further and test if supplements of these vitamins stop migraines. But researchers said they believe headache patients would benefit from taking them.
Scientists say the vitamins improve “neuronal homeostasis.” This is the process by which the brain’s neural pathways remain stable. When these pathways are disrupted, migraines can result.
These 4 Vitamins May End Migraine Suffering
Rather than supplementing all four nutrients individually, it may be more convenient to take a multivitamin.
Make sure it contains:
- Riboflavin (vitamin B2): 50 mgs.
- Folate (vitamin B9): 400 mcg.
- CoQ10: 90 mgs.
- Vitamin D: 2,000 IU.
For a child suffering migraines, check with their pediatrician before starting supplementation.
Be sure the vitamins you are taking are high quality. Many drug stores and grocery stores sell low grade vitamins and these will not be sufficient. Instead, opt for wholefood-sourced vitamins. They are available at health food stores or online.
