Food Brands and BPA: What To Avoid

Food Brands and BPA: What to Avoid

In previous years, Campbell’s Soup announced it’s plan to go BPA (Bisphenol A) free by mid 2017, this was a huge victory for Natural health advocates. Today they use 100% cans, and avoid the BPA chemical.

The Institute for Natural Healing has long been making the world aware of the dangers of BPA. The chemical can be found in plastics and in the epoxy lining of cans.

The Bisphenol A chemical is believed to disrupt the natural hormone production in the body. It’s also been linked to a myriad of other health problems, including cancer, heart disease, migraines, asthma, diabetes, and infertility. Additionally, BPA has a long standing run in with many cases of breast cancer. It’s been studied and links have been found between BPA and damage to the DNA in breast tissue cells, which can lead to cancerous cells.

With the announcement of such a well known company such as Campbell’s Soup, it’s expected that other big food companies will follow suit and also phase out BPA from their products, this is wonderful news for consumers all around.

Unfortunately, there is a caveat to Campbell’s announcement, it will take a very long time to phase out BPA completely. While their plan was to phase out by the middle of 2017, we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, what should you do?

Whenever possible, purchase fresh foods and avoid pre-packaged stuff, however, frozen foods are your next best option. It’s not easy to avoid canned foods completely, luckily there are many other companies that have already removed BPA completely from their cans and other products.

A non-profit consumer organization called The Environmental Working Group has compiled a list of brands that still use BPA products, and ones that don’t.
